No cabin stay would be complete without a cook-out so of course there is a barbeque and outdoor furniture as well. A canoe and life jackets are there for you to explore the lake. Boat launch and swimming are available from the nearby government dock. The cottage is located in the small community of Ahmic Harbour, directly across the road from the water. The living area provides comfortable seating for the occupants along with a TV/DVD for movies, available in nearby Dunchurch. The kitchen is well-equipped with the standard amenities. There are two bedrooms, one with a queen bed for mom and dad, and a loft with twin beds for two more, making it most suitable for couples or small family groups. The New Old Cabin makes a great getaway for those looking to recapture the spirit of yesterday without sacrificing today's comforts. Now that you understand the name, let's have a look at what you will find. The sturdy, thick logs and workmanship harken back to days of pride and craftsmanship. We have no hesitation recommending the place for a comfortable & memorable holiday.When you first look at the "New old Cabin", you might think you are gazing back to pioneer days, but in fact, the cabin was "just" built in 1989. Roasting marshmallows at the camp fire for smores was a sweet ending to a fun day every night. The fire pit being located right in front of the lake, we could watch beautiful sunsets while sitting at the camp fire. Paddles for the canoe & kayak as well as life vests were also available. With the 3 watercrafts available (canoe, kayak & pedal boat) our family enjoyed going out on the lake at the same time. The swing, slide & climbing set is wonderful for young, active kids and a lifesaver for parents. The heavy screen even helps to cut the wind & the chill. The large table in the gazebo is also nice for playing board games outdoors without having to shoo away flies, mosquitoes and wasps from drinks & snacks. On dry sunny days we could sit in the screened-in gazebo for relaxing, bug-free meals. It felt homey from the first day, almost like spending time at a relative's cottage rather than at a rental.

We found it very convenient to use the free side of the huge floor-to-ceiling pantry to store our food supplies. The kitchen is well equipped with many pots & pans, baking sheets & pans, an abundance of plates, bowls, glasses, mugs & cutlery. It is clean & combines a rustic atmosphere with modern amenities like wifi (very reliable service), flat top stove & oven, large fridge, microwave, large gas BBQ, renovated bathroom. We stayed at this cottage at the very end of August 2021. The cottage is situated in a very quiet corner away from the main traffic on the lake so you can paddle around or drift for an afternoon in tranquility. There is no end to the exploration on this large lake which connects to neighbouring waterways. It is renown for its wide variety of quality game fish. Mississippi lake is also worth a wee Google search. Bbq on the deck or enjoy a marshmallow roast at the beachside fire pit.
The spacious second floor master bedroom looks out over the lake and enjoys a stunning sunset along with the deck, living room and main lawn as the sun sets directly across the lake and washes everything in golden light. There is a long gentle open lawn for outdoor sports and enough parking to satisfy extra daytime visitors. A nice little dock for a boat or just to bask after a swim. kids can wade out a good long way in complete safety as the water remains shallow. The clean sandy beach is in a tiny little bay on Mississippi Lake.

This place captured our hearts because it offers the full waterside cottage experience while living in an authentic log home in a stunning grove of towering ash trees. there is an extra pull out couch for additional guests if required. Brand new updated bathroom, eat in kitchen all just 50 minutes from Ottawa. Enough lawn space to spread out and play. Cozy as can be original settler's log cabin with a stunning west facing sunsets over a kid friendly sandy beach.
